Hey what’s up? What’s up? What’s up, buddy? Welcome back to THE a.m guys. Welcome back to five minute rants. I’m your host, Michael Abernathy. And welcome back to the show predicated on the journey of life and business. Hey, real quick, if you know somebody who would benefit from listening to the show and changing their lives for the better. Or they would actually start pursuing their dream, will you share the show with them, partner with me in changing lives? I appreciate it.
Well, I want to talk about how if you aren’t failing, are you even trying? And Here’s why I’m making that statement. Because if you are starting to pursue your dreams, or your goal, and you’ve never done it before, it’s a new adventure, a new piece or part of your journey in life, you’re going to fail because you’ve never done it before. And oftentimes, we don’t start stuff because of fear of failure, well I don’t want to fail, but it’s already expected to fail. Like, think about when you learned math, you didn’t know What two plus two equals right, you got the wrong answer a bunch thinking of multiplication, I don’t know where maybe spelling or reading, how you learn to read, there’s failure along the way. So it’s, actually it’s unacceptable to think that you won’t fail if you start something new.
And all of us kind of, I think intrinsically know this that we will fail if we try something. And because we intrinsically know it, it really stops us from trying, it really stops us from pursuing our dreams, or moving forward into the new area going after the career we’ve wanted or starting the company or pursuing that relationship, right. We’re afraid of failure, afraid of getting rejected and all these things. But Here’s the thing is if you don’t have failure in your life, if you have consistent failure, are you growing? Are you trying And are you moving forward? Are you doing new things? Are you just maintaining the status quo. And I think it’s so important to self assess, because you might be fine with maintaining the status quo, you might be happy where you’re at life, and there’s things that you’re pursuing, that aren’t as big or grandiose as they used to be when you were younger, or whatever.
However, for a lot of us, I think I’m not that unique in this, there has to be more to this than life, there has to be more than What I currently have in life. And I want to go discover that. And I’ve shared this, you know, on a personal note, where a lot of my personal journey has been that life is an adventure. And I don’t just want to go to college and get a job. What does life have for me? Right? What is it venture that I can partake on? It’s not just about waking up and going and having a job and working a nine to five doing all this stuff. It’s like, No, I want to have an adventure, I want to do something of value with my life. And so as a result, I am actually driven to do a lot of different things. And I’m also a very goal oriented person.
But the point of why I’m saying that is is one of the patterns is is that if I’m not really failing, if I don’t experience failure, am I actually growing and moving forward to What I want out of life to What I want to be and What I want to become. And so one of the good ways to measure and measure yourself to see What you’re doing to see if you’re growing and moving forward is how often do you experience failure? Is it rare? And then What type of failure to experience on a scale of large, medium small? Where is your failure? Is it minutiae, right? Or is it a large failure? Because, man, when Andrew and I first started business, there was tons of failure and not just like, small kind of like, oh, we we missed this, we missed that we forgot this little invoice like we had experienced all the small failures, too. But there was a crap ton of large failures along the way, because it was new.
And that’s really oftentimes how you know like, oh, yeah, this is me moving forward. In me pursuing this avenue creating this pathway in journey in my life, is because the failure in one of the things that Andrew and I often talk about in the company, as the faster you fail, the faster you move forward. And so if you fail quickly, if you can have that feedback loop in your life to where you recognize failure quicker, right, you catch it before all the unintended consequences come full force, you notice and know the signs of What failure looks like, then you’re going to move forward quicker. And I’m saying this because whether you want it to or not. Life is a journey in life is a journey with a starting place and an ending point. And this journey includes decisions we make actions we take in my personal opinion is if I’m on a journey, it might as well be fun while I’m on it, right?
I don’t want to be miserable. Honestly, personally, I don’t. I would rather be happy I’d rather look at life as a gift. Or rather look at the things that I’m doing as I get to like I get to do these things. I don’t have to do these things. I would rather look at life in a positive manner. And then believe that stuff happens for me, not to me. And I would rather learn and grow which means recognizing failure and even inducing failure like shipping things before I know they’re ready but I’m my skill set is not at the current level to get it to where it needs. seems to be but shipping that upfront and then knowing that cool there’s going to be failure at the end of this and that’s okay.
That’s actually what’s really important is the failure and then the learning from that later. So anyways, I’m out of time today guys, so I’ll catch up on the flip side peace
