What’s up? What’s up? What’s up everybody? Welcome back to THE a.m guys, welcome back to five minute rants. I’m your host, Michael Abernathy. And welcome back to the show predicated on the journey of life and business. Hey guys, real quick could you partner with me in changing lives. If you know somebody who’s in business, or they want to start their own business, would you share this show with them? I appreciate it.
Well, anyways, guys, today, I actually want to talk about ownership. And I think that this is a massive topic. Because for whatever reason, ownership is really underrated in our society today. It’s really underrated. It’s a underrated skill set in order to be able to process because it’s not just a heart position to own like, okay, everything that happens in my life, it’s my fault, because I had some part to play in it, the physical evidence of that is I’m there or affected by it, right. But it’s also a skill set, to be able to process to be able to understand your part, to see your part reflect, and then learn, grow and change, and have changed produced out of it.
My wife and I, whenever we’ve had disagreements or arguments, because we are not perfect people. And we did not have a perfect marriage. We, we have used this and walk through this to really settle things for us to both see where we’ve been wrong, and how to actually have a healthy relationship. Right. And Here’s something if Here’s something to understand that if you are affected by it, you have a part to play, which means you have a site of ownership and whatever has happened and occurred in your life. If you’re physically there. Well, you got ownership cool. You watch. Two people get a drunken brawl, and fistfight on the street. Cool. You may not have been involved in that fistfight, but you were still there physically saw it. Were affected by it. So you have a part to play and you need to own your part. Like did you call the police? Right? If it was a violent crime? Did you? Did you participate in abroad? Did you not What happened? What were your motives? And then you can own all that.
The reason why I’m saying this, and coming back to this is simply this. We, in business do not want to drive. When starting business. When operating a large majority of the time as people we want to be told What to do. We want to be told What to do like my nephew, were talking the other day, and the younger ones were like, hey, Nathaniel you are in charge, right? You’re in charge. So you tell us What to do, and give us our jobs. That’s the normal mindset, hey, I want a job. I want to work for somebody and I want to be told What to do. And the reason why is I don’t want to have responsibility in my life. Because if I’m in the driver’s seat, that means I’m responsible for where I end up.
And oftentimes I found that we’re avoiding where we’re ending up. And we’re avoiding thinking about things we’re avoiding thinking about the long term effects, right, we either get overwhelmed, we feel overwhelmed with what’s happening in life. Or it’s simply we’re avoiding the pain that is happening in our lives. And we’re avoiding What is actually occurring in our lives, because it is painful. And then now we have to do something about it. See, once you start looking at something, we have to do something about it. And that’s the bigger thing is, when you’re in a place of leadership within the company, you have to look and if you don’t look, you’ll never deal with What needs to be dealt with. You’ll never create What needs to be created. And you’ll never prevent What needs to be prevented if you’re not looking at it right.
And that is the one of the biggest steps to ownership is just stopping to look not not make assessments not judge, literally just observe, take in data, hey, it means awesome, I’m looking, the sky is blue, the clouds are white, not that this guy is evil screwed up, not that the sky is good, not the clouds are good or bad, or whatever have negative connotations is like, these are the facts laid out. And that’s the first step. And if we normally do that, if we’re normally looking, then the next step is oh, now I’m responsible for doing something about this. I’m responsible for actually taking this information and utilizing it in my life, utilizing the team in the company and doing something with it. For forward movement.
And the first step of ownership, the first step of driving is looking and looking at all the different areas of a company that need to be looked at looking at all the different pillars of life that need to be looked at, looking at all the team members looking at the relationships, the culture, and a lot of it is just observing. And if you notice that leaders are more involved with vision, think about that keyword vision, What do you need in order to have vision eyeballs, What eyeballs do look, they see. And it’s part of that whole process to be in the driver’s seat. And it’s part of that whole process to have ownership and have a part to play. And Here’s the other thing, when you really start to have ownership you actually end up being really happy and a lot of misery tends to come from not looking and not owning in my experience. So anyways guys, I’m out of time and I’ll catch you later. Peace
