Hey what’s up? What’s up? What’s up, everybody? Welcome back to THE a.m guys, welcome back to five minute rants. I’m your host, Michael Abernathy. And welcome to the show predicated on the journey of life and business. Hey, guys, listen real quick, if you know somebody that you believe would benefit from this show and just benefit from listening, and learning, would you share this with them, and would you partner with me to spread the word and get the word out? I really appreciate that guys. Well, anyways, I’m gonna go ahead and get on into this.

Today, I want to talk about a quote that one of my good friends said recently, you know, we were just talking about leadership and building teams, we were talking about, you know, creating and drafting a vision. And one things he said, that really stuck with me. And it’s essentially a better way to say a lot of the things I’ve said, but he said this, it is better to run, and then get in a wreck, than to be too scared to run at all. And that’s really true. It’s better to run and get in a wreck than to be too scared at all. And to me, oftentimes, we don’t start and we don’t run, we don’t ship things, we don’t make decisions, because we’re actually too scared to do anything.

And it’s interesting, because if you look back along your life, most of the things that have shaped you have not just been the successes, they’ve been the wrecks, they’ve been the times you’ve messed up, they’ve been the times that have been hard, or unintended consequences have come into your life, and they’ve shaped you to make better decisions or to be a better person. And see this is this is interesting, because it really brings up a mindset of how I view the world and how I view What happens in my life, I can view it as a good thing. And I can view it as a gift, or I get to view it as a curse, and just something horrible. And even the hard things, all the things that I’ve had to do that I don’t want to do, or the negative consequences, I’m air quoting negative consequences in my life that have come from decisions I’ve made, all of them are positive and have added positively to my life, because I’ve chosen for them to.

And it’s interesting, because oftentimes we make decisions based on I don’t want to mess up, I don’t want to get hurt and a lot of a lot of leadership. And a lot of people moving into leadership, this is What they struggle with. I don’t want to make the wrong decision, versus no wrong decisions are blessings. And then finding out that you’re wrong very quickly is even a greater blessing. It’s a gift, somebody coming up and telling you hey, you’re wrong, I think we need to course correct. And then there’s evidence, there’s data, oh my gosh, you’ve now learned two things, you’ve learned a better way to proceed. And then you’ve also learned What not to do. And then there’s more on top of that.

And so I’m gonna say the quote, again, as we’re talking about this, as we’re talking about building teams and vision is better to run and get in a wreck than to be too scared to run at all. And there’s something else about that, when we’re too scared to run. Regret doesn’t become something that actually helps shape our lives like, oh, man, I really feel remorse and regret for making that decision. And I understand how it hurt me and the people around me and I want to change, it’s not that type of regret, it becomes like a haunting regret where it’s, I wish that I did that. I wonder What my life would be like, and it just haunts you. And it follows you around like that. And that’s What happens when we’re too scared to make a decision. Because at least when we make a decision, when we decide to move forward, when we decide to just ship it and run. When we do that. It at least allows us to have ownership of okay, you know What I did something I tried, and I didn’t make the best decision I could have an outcome wasn’t What I wanted. But you know What, at least ship something. And then there’s a pride from that side, there’s confidence there’s, there’s really a deeper ownership of moving forward in that way.

And I think oftentimes, especially leadership, or the more stress that comes along with people, and the more like risk that’s involved, or What people perceive as risk, right? The more that that happens, the more the tendency is to be full of fear, or to be full of anxiety about oh, no, I don’t know What to do. I don’t know What decision I should make. I don’t know how to proceed. Is this the right decision that I should be making? And none of those things really matter? They really don’t Because even at the end of your life, how much does this decision matter? Right? Like at the end of my life, how much do the decisions matter that I’m making? Like how much impact do they have? Is that What I’m really going to be worried about? And I’m saying this because it is to help is to help get started with where you want to go in life. It is to help start and move forward. It is to help bring out more momentum and potential because the more that you get up and run and the more that you push forward through things, the better life is good going to be well anyways guys, I’m out of time so I’ll catch you later peace
