What’s up, everybody? Welcome back to THE a.m guys. Welcome back.
So I want to talk about courage today. Last couple episodes, I’ve really been talking about ideas, and I really want to talk about courage, because I really think it’s a characteristic everybody needs in their life. It’s a character trait being courageous, right? It’s not just knowing that you are courageous, but it’s actually doing things when you feel afraid.
See the definition of courage, and I think this is a good definition. You are moving forward to accomplish the task at hand, right to go into battle, whether you feel afraid or not, see more often than times. Most people think courage is simply doing things without feeling fear. And it’s the opposite. You feel the fear and you’re worried about things, and you move forward regardless.
There’s that old saying that fear is an inch deep and a mile wide, and so fear itself, and looking at fear is way more intimidating than it actually turns out to be, more often than not. And I think courage is such a needed, it really is such a needed character trait and heart position, especially in business, especially in life, if you’re thinking about starting your own business, you’re gonna need courage. You’re gonna need courage to follow through on your own ideas and believe in yourself. You’re gonna need courage to follow through in in your vision. You’re gonna need courage to take risk and make moves that you are unsure about. You’re not gonna know that everything works you haven’t done it before, and if you haven’t done something before, it’s really unreasonable to believe that you’re going to be amazing at it right out of the gate.
It’s not a great mindset to have to go, Oh man, I’m just going to be a rock star and amazing at this thing right out of the gate. When you have no practice swings under your belt, you have nothing. And so it’s really going to take a lot of courage, and I think a lot of ideas flounder, and a lot of vision flounder, and a lot of hopes and dreams die because of lack of courage. A lot of what we do in life dies because of lack of courage. We miss a lot of opportunities because we lack courage.
We’re too afraid to go and ask, and we’re too afraid to put ourselves out there, and as a result, the opportunity just go straight by us, and then, you know what? You don’t have it anyways, and it’s all because of I’m afraid of what may happen. I’m afraid of x, y, z, whatever it is. I’m afraid of this, I’m afraid of x, I’m afraid of people not liking me. I’m afraid of getting told no, or facing rejection, or I’m afraid that it might flop. The truth is, it’s going to fail. But if you ask, you’ve if you don’t ask, if you don’t ask, the truth is, it’s going to fail. And if you don’t ask, you’ve already failed. You’ve already missed the opportunity, right? You can never win a race that you don’t even get into in the first place because you miss the sign up window. You’re never going to be able to compete in that.
And I think it’s so amazing how lack of courage is actually what induces more failure in life and in business than actual having courage and taking steps. Often times we look at people, we go, man, How’d they get that? How did they get there? How did they accomplish those things? They had courage. They had gumption to get up and do and just try. And here’s the thing, you’re gonna fail, right? You’re gonna fail one way or the other, but it it’s better to fail trying than not doing anything at all. And then you live with failure and regret regardless, right? You live with failure and regret regardless. There’s going to be failure in your life. It’s just, are you attaching the regret of not trying at all in the first place?
And so I think it’s really important to just make moves. You’re going to go through things in life that are scary. You’re going to have to make hard decisions. You’re going to have to make fear, excuse me, you’re gonna have to make decisions when there’s fear right in front of you. And you’re gonna have to make moves regardless of what you’re doing, right, regardless of whether you’re an entrepreneur, regardless of whether you’re trying to run a business, regardless of whether you are just working in corporate and that’s what you love doing.
There’s going to be, there’s going to come a time where you’ve got to make decisions in the face of all of that and all the anxiety and all the fear, and are you going to do it? And more than not, once you start facing down, what you need to face down, oh, it’s not that bad, right? Like, I’ve worked, I’ve worked with lots of people over the years, lots of leaders, and worked with a lot of people, and had this conversation with them a lot, right? And then once you begin moving through it, you start realizing, oh, it’s not that bad.
And then now here’s the best part about it. You start making a practice of just moving through it and facing it. You start to really deeply believe, Oh, it’s not that bad on the other side, let me just go over this. Let me just get over this hump. Let me just move through this one piece. It’s actually really not that bad, and it’s not gonna be that bad. It’s just what ‘s looking at me right now. Just seems horrible, but it’s really not.
Anyways, guys, that’s it. I’ll catch you later. Peace.
