What’s up? What’s up? What’s up, everybody? Welcome back to THE a.m guys, welcome back to five minute rants. I’m your host, Michael Abernathy. And welcome back to the show predicated on the journey of life and business. Well, guys, real quick, before we started the show, would you partner with me in changing lives? If you know somebody whose life would be better by listening to the show Would you share it with them? I appreciate it.
Well, today, I actually really wants to talk about really having, I guess you could say discipline. So last episode really talked about perseverance, having the ability to get back up despite failure, right. And despite repeated failure, and I really want to talk about having a mindset for that discipline to keep going, even when, you know, things in life suck certain situations in business in life and relationships, they suck. What do you do? How do you keep going? And Here’s the thing, you’ve got to have hope at the end of the tunnel, right? There’s got to be purpose and deeper meaning to What you’re doing. Right? It’s not just going to be about the money.
It can’t just be about the money. And if you think about if you’re like, Man, I want to have money, there’s normally something else tied to it’s like, why why do you want the money? Is it because you’re gonna look at somebody and say, ha, proved you wrong? Is it because you’re looking at being like, wow, I want to be able to provide for my wife and kids better? Is it and is it because you’re looking and saying, oh my gosh, like, I want to have that house or these things, and you’re looking for things. And if you notice and listen to people’s stories, as they talk about success, the people who ended up being empty after they got the success, right, they didn’t have a purpose and have a goal anymore after their success, there’s a common theme is they normally didn’t have a greater good, they weren’t looking to impact something bigger than themselves, they weren’t looking to change something bigger than themselves.
And so once they achieved the dream is like, oh, there’s emptiness with this. And I think that’s something really important to address. But the point of What I’m trying to get is, in where I’m trying to go is this in order to persevere, and in order to be disciplined, and really have the self control, you need to make rational decisions in tough emotional moments, you need hope, at the end of everything, and you need a goal, you need a long term goal, great, you’re going to become a better person, why you’re going to get the skill set about why you’re going to build this great company, why you’re going to become a better salesman, why you’re going to become a better husband, or better wife. Why? Right? Because once you get that, once you’re doing those things, why all of a sudden you reach a dead end. And it’s a self induced dead end, because we haven’t thought past the point of What is going to happen when I get there.
And I think that’s personally really important to do, because otherwise, you find yourself floundering in the hard moments, because it’s like, what’s the point of really doing this, there’s been a lot of things that I’ve done that have sucked in my life that have been very hard. And I’ve had to make a lot of hard decisions. And the one thing that is most come back to that has allowed me to continue to move forward, it has helped me and aided me to is no, this is why I’m doing this, I decided that this is What I’m doing with my life, Here’s my end goal, here is my purpose. And if I quit now, I’m not going to fulfill that. And if I quit now, that is not What I’m going to be doing with my life. And I’m going to look back and go, I’m going to regret not doing this or at least try. Not even trying, and not even doing the best I could and so you get back up.
And I’m saying this because this ties in to self control, when you sit down to do the work that you don’t want to do. And when you sit down and have to do the things that you don’t want to do, you look back and go, Oh man, this is just for a moment. And it’s only for a time it will pass. And I’m going to be closer to where I want to be, I’m going to be closer to the man I want to be I’m going to be closer to the goal and the vision for my life. And and I’m going to move forward to towards those things. And that’s when it really matters, the hope and the greater good. Like it can’t just be about making money. Right? There’s more to it in life like you you if you listen to people who have an are very wealthy, they talk that about that there’s a lot more.
And so anyways, I’m saying this because if you’re just starting out, really have something bigger than yourself out there. At the end of the day, right? You’re starting a lawn company, you’re starting your own contracting company, or development company, or whatever it is, or whatever you’re going to do your consulting company, whatever the dream is, and you’re starting out here, and then it’s like, oh my gosh, okay, I am doing this. And there’s a bigger reason. And if you listen to the law success stories when people are at rock bottom, it’s they normally succeeded because there’s something bigger than themselves at the end of that. And I think that’s really important to have and if you’re looking to have more discipline in your life, if you’re looking to make better and more healthier decisions. This is about how you do it. You have something bigger outside yourself and you’re current circumstances that you’re running after.
Anyways guys, I’m out of time so I’ll catch you later peace
